The buzz surrounding the movie “Merry Christmas,” starring Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi, has been steadily mounting ever since it was first announced. During the MAMI event, director Sriram Raghavan unveiled an intriguing aspect of the project. He disclosed that the film is based on a novel adaptation. Although he didn’t unveil the title of the book, he did mention that audiences would uncover the novel’s name in the film’s credits.

During a discussion with Siddharth Roy Kapur, S. Hussain Zaidi, and Somen Mishra, Sriram Raghavan offered his insights on the art of adapting novels into films. He conveyed that, although he creates his own screenplays, adapting a book tends to be a more seamless process due to the readily available source material. He underscored the potency of the original source, emphasizing that his role is to breathe life into existing elements rather than invent entirely new ones.

Raghavan revealed that the inspiration for “Merry Christmas” stemmed from a book he stumbled upon while reading. However, he chose to maintain the suspense by refraining from disclosing the book’s title until the film’s release. He also acknowledged the challenge of adapting a novel while preserving its core essence for those who have already delved into its pages.
