Gangubai Kathiawadi, of Sanjay Leela Bhansali that features the bubbly actress Alia Bhatt in the titular role, is in news once again.  The film although went on floors in December 2019, but the shooting got delayed due to pandemic. It also faced legal issues in December last year when family members of Gangubai have filed a case against the director and actress in the Bombay civil court. There were objections to the story of the film in their filed case. Now as the first hearing took place we got another update on this matter. Continue to read for more.

 One of the adopted sons of Gangubai, Babuji Raaji Shah, filed a case against Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Hussain Zaidi – the author of Mafia Queen Of Mumbai on which Gangubai Kathiawadi is based. He claimed in his case that some portions of the book are defamatory breaching his privacy, liberty, and self-respect. Not only he demanded those chapters to be removed from the book, but also asked for a halt in the book’s publication but also in the film’s production.

The first hearing of the case that took place at Bombay Civil Court had dismissed the injunction against Hussain Zaidi, and the producers and actor of Gangubai Kathiawadi. According to reports, the court stated, “Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali had filed a notice of motion on behalf of Bhansali Productions and Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt, who was also added as a defendant in the suit. They had sought rejection of the plaint under Order VII Rule 11 of the Code of Civil Procedure (CPC).”

Further it stated, “After hearing both sides extensively, Additional Sessions Judge RM Sadrani allowed the notice of motion filed by Bhansali Productions and rejected the plaint filed by Shah. A detailed order is awaited.”
