Suniel Shetty and Akshay Kumar have shared the screen in numerous blockbusters since the early 1990s, but their relationship goes beyond cinematic partnerships. In several recent interviews, Suniel Shetty revealed the deeply personal reason behind his emotional attachment to Akshay Kumar—a story rooted in loss, memory, and the healing power of friendship.
When Suniel first met Akshay during the shoot of their 1993 film “Waqt Hamara Hai,” he was instantly struck by Akshay’s uncanny resemblance to his late cousin Ullaas. This cousin, who tragically passed away in a car accident at a young age, played a pivotal role in Suniel’s early life and was instrumental in getting him his first modeling assignment. According to Suniel, Akshay’s clean-shaven look, energy, and demeanor were eerily similar to Ullaas, making every interaction a bittersweet reminder of the brother he lost.
Initially, Shetty admitted to feeling apprehensive, even telling Akshay that working together would continually bring back difficult memories. Yet, what emerged was a bond filled with laughter, camaraderie, and mutual respect. Akshay’s own fun-loving nature and light-heartedness helped Suniel heal and transformed what could have been a painful reminder into a beautiful friendship. This emotional connection, built upon shared memories and genuine affection, has sustained their relationship both on and off the screen, making them one of Bollywood’s most cherished duos.
