Veteran Producer and Cinematographer Prem Sagar, Son of Ramanand Sagar, Dies at 77

Veteran producer and cinematographer Prem Sagar, renowned for his influential work in Indian film and television, passed away on August 31, 2025, in Mumbai at the age of 77. The son of legendary “Ramayan” creator Ramanand Sagar, Prem Sagar was a key figure in the Sagar Arts banner, contributing significantly as both a producer and a cinematographer. Trained at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, his technical mastery and artistic vision shaped iconic television series like the epic “Ramayan” and various other mythological and fantasy shows that defined a generation of Indian viewers.

Prem Sagar had been unwell for some time and was discharged from Breach Candy Hospital on his doctor’s advice before passing away peacefully at home. His funeral was held at Pawan Hans cremation ground in Juhu, attended by family and industry colleagues who paid their respects. Remembered for upholding and advancing the Sagar family’s cinematic legacy, his dedication to visual storytelling left an indelible mark on Indian entertainment. With his demise, the film and television fraternity mourns the loss of a visionary whose work brought Indian mythology and culture to life for millions.
