Malayalam film industry is in mourning as veteran actor Shanavas, son of legendary cinema icon Prem Nazir, passed away at the age of 71 in Kerala. The actor, who had been suffering from kidney and heart-related ailments, died late Monday night in Thiruvananthapuram, despite receiving prolonged medical care. His funeral took place at the Palayam Muslim Jamaath Cemetery, drawing a large turnout of admirers and fellow film personalities who came to pay their last respects.

Shanavas made his acting debut in 1981 with “Premageethangal” while still a postgraduate student, and quickly became known for his strong screen presence and versatility. Over a career spanning more than four decades, he acted in nearly 100 films in Malayalam and Tamil, collaborating with some of the best directors of his era. He notably starred alongside his father, Prem Nazir, in seven films, helping to bridge two generations of Malayalam cinema.

His memorable roles in films like “Mouna Raagam,” “Chithram,” and “China Town” were complemented by numerous appearances in popular Malayalam television serials. Remembered for his humility and warm rapport with colleagues, Shanavas leaves behind two sons and his wife, along with a rich artistic legacy that continues to inspire fans and industry peers alike.
