Hansal Mehta’s web series, Scam 1992, features the journey of the 1990s biggest scamster Harshad Mehta. The web series which streams on SonyLiv is appreciated both by audience and critics. Currently the show is enjoying the highest rating of 9.6 on IMDB in India. But most people are not aware that Paresh Rawal was all set to produce a movie based on Harshad Mehta’s life, in which Varun Dhawan was casted to play the scamster. Read on to know more.
Although Varun was all prepared for the movie, its script got struck and it finally got scraped. At the same time Sameer Nair and Applause Entertainment acquired the rights to make a web show on Harshad and Scam 1992 was finally made.
As per a report, “Varun was all but locked in to play Harshad Mehta by Paresh. But the script for the biopic was stuck. They finally had to scrap the idea.”
Pratik Gandhi, who played Harshad in the series, became a household name after the show. Taking about the cast of his show, Hansal Mehta said, “I’m aware that Harshad Mehta’s story has had a long journey to the screen. Hota hai. Every story has its own destiny. I had to face a lot of resistance while casting Pratik Gandhi. Many big names were suggested. But I wanted Pratik. Then I was advised to do some padding in the casting. But I refused to cast known faces even in supporting roles. I now feel one of the reasons why Scam worked so well was the relatively unknown faces on screen. They all looked like the characters they were playing.”
