Shah Rukh Khan has been a dominant figure in both our hearts and the Hindi film industry for over 30 years. Known for his versatile performances, he seamlessly embodies various roles, be it as a villain, hero, or soldier. Many credit SRK for Bollywood’s global recognition, as he’s widely recognized even in Hollywood despite not starring in any international films. In today’s throwback story, we will take you back to the time when SRK compared his looks to Tom Cruise and revealed why he rejected Hollywood movies.
Despite his global appeal, fans often wonder why Shah Rukh Khan hasn’t ventured into Hollywood. Last month, he revealed that he was offered a role in Danny Boyle’s “Slumdog Millionaire” (2008) to portray the host of the TV game show ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’. However, Khan turned down the offer, leading to Anil Kapoor taking on the role.
In 2011, when asked if he would follow Anil Kapoor’s footsteps into Hollywood, Khan shared in an interview with The National News an interesting perspective. He stated that he wouldn’t pursue Hollywood unless there was a compelling story featuring a 46-year-old brown Indian man like himself. This remark sheds light on Khan’s desire for roles that resonate with his identity and age.
Further, Shah Rukh said, “I don’t dance better than John Travolta. I don’t look nicer than Tom Cruise. I don’t aspire to not because I don’t want to, but because I can’t.” Back then, there were rumors that SRK would share the screen space with Leonardo DiCaprio in Paul Schrader’s Xtreme City, which Martin Scorsese was going to produce. About the same, SRK revealed that he has yet to read the story. He added, “It would require six to eight months of preparations, and I have two more commitments that I have to complete.”
Unfortunately, the film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Shah Rukh Khan never materialized. However, in 2023, SRK’s consecutive successes reaffirmed his unstoppable status. His films performed well globally, proving that he doesn’t rely on Hollywood to gain international fame; his Hindi movies have achieved that for years.
