The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked Mumbai Police to register a case over a brief scene in Aryan Khan’s The Ba**ds of Bollywood* where Ranbir Kapoor is seen using an e-cigarette.
The complaint says the scene shows a banned product on screen without any health warning or statutory disclaimer. Complainants argue this can influence young viewers and break the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019.

Several news outlets report that the NHRC has written to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and asked authorities to submit an action-taken report about the episode and the makers.
Activists who filed the complaint say the show’s depiction normalizes vaping and that producers and the streaming platform should be held responsible as well as the actor seen in the scene.
The makers, the streaming service, and Ranbir Kapoor have not publicly announced any legal response at the time of these reports. For now, the issue is with the NHRC’s notice and any next steps will depend on the Mumbai Police and ministry replies.
