Mumbai Court Demands Rhea Chakraborty’s Stand on CBI’s Closure Report in Sushant Singh Rajput Case

Five years after the tragic death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, the legal proceedings have entered a crucial phase with a Mumbai court seeking a formal response from Rhea Chakraborty to the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) closure report. On July 29, 2025, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate R.D. Chavan issued a notice to Chakraborty, requiring her to reply to the findings which concluded that Rajput’s death was a “simple case of suicide” and recommended no criminal charges against any parties involved, including Chakraborty, her family, or Rajput’s sisters.

The CBI’s closure report, filed in March 2025 after an exhaustive five-year investigation, affirmed there was no evidence to support allegations of foul play or criminal conspiracy. Chakraborty, who had previously been arrested on drug charges linked to the case but later released on bail, must now decide whether to accept the report’s conclusions or challenge them in court.

The next hearing is set for August 12, when the court will either accept the CBI report or order further investigation if significant objections are raised. The case, which ignited national debate, media scrutiny, and social media campaigns like #JusticeForSSR, remains an emotionally charged issue. Legal closure may be near, yet the social discourse surrounding Rajput’s death is expected to persist.
