Story of Bhoothnath Returns somehow relates to Bhoothnath. In both the series  name is same as Kailash Nath, (Amitabh Bachchan) , story of Bhoothnath start when he enters into Ghost Land where is he is asked to show his  abilities as a ghost as he was failed to scare any kid. In order to rescue himself, he returns to Earth where he tries his best to scare kids and is unsuccessful with his attempts. Anyhow one kid he meets is not scared of him his name is Akhrot (Parth Bhalerao) as he  can see him, though  Akhrot is not scared of Bhoothnath but he indulge with Bhootnath helping him to scare other kids. In return, he asks Bhoothnath to act scared of him and to run away from a haunted house whenever recite mantras  front of his friends, so that his friends can agree to take  him as a player in their cricket team. As story progress Bhoothnath wish to help him further by helping him earn money by giving ghosts shelter under-construction high rise building by fulfilling the wishes they were still staying back on Earth as ghosts for. During this process Akhrot comes to know why the ghost died, and help their families get insurance money by scaring corrupt insurance officers During  this process they come in contact with  Bhau (Boman Irani) who is a former criminal who is now a famous politician who is corrupt. As Akhrot and Bhoothnath become upset by seeing ongoing corruption in country therefore Akhrot decide that Bhoothnath will contest upcoming elections. Due to election campaign rivalry between Bhoothnath and Bhau gets worsen that Bhoothnath give up his powers in order to win. Story get suddenly change when one day Akhrot and Bhoothnath   decide to do  Parivartan rally by Bhoothnath to encourage a high turn-out on election day, after Bhau comes to know about Parivartan rally he send his men to threaten Akhrot, so that he help in preventing rally from happening, anyhow Akhrot say no and he is ready to face the punishment, due to this Bhau get angry and his men injure Akhrot grievously for his non-compliance, due to which Bhoothnath leaves his rally and runs to meet Akhrot in the hospital. He goes to the Bhoothworld and begs for Akhrot’s life, but Bhoothworld put one condition in-front of  Bhoothnath that if he will win  election then only they will spare life of Akhrot’s. Due to unavailbilty of Bhoothnath Bhau take a benefit at the rally and tries to influence the peole to vote for him. However, on election day, the majority of the people voter for Bhoothnath. The next day, waiting anxiously for the results, Bhootnath suddenly sees Akhrot’s heartbeat rising and realizes that he has won the elections. Movie comes to conclusion with Akhrot recovering fast and everyone celebrating the success of Bhoothnath.
