Kareena Kapoor Khan speaks for child rights as UNICEF Ambassador

On Saturday, UNICEF India announced that Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor has been appointed as their new National Ambassador. Kareena has been associated with UNICEF India since 2014 and will now take on a more prominent role to support the organization’s work. 

As a National Ambassador, Kareena will help further UNICEF’s efforts to ensure every child’s right to early childhood development, healthcare, education, and gender equality. This is an important role as UNICEF works to address critical issues affecting children in India.

Prior to this, Kareena had served as a Celebrity Advocate for UNICEF India, using her platform to raise awareness and advocate for children’s causes. 

 “There are few things as important as the rights of children, the future generation of this world. I am honoured to continue my association with UNICEF now as India’s National Ambassador,” the 43-year-old actor said in a statement.

“I will strive to use my voice and influence for vulnerable children and their rights, especially around early childhood, education and gender equality. For every child deserves a childhood, a fair chance, a future,” she added.

Alongside Kareena’s appointment, UNICEF India has also named its first-ever Youth Advocates. These are young leaders who will champion important issues such as climate action, mental health, innovation, and encouraging girls to pursue STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. 

The appointment of both Kareena and the Youth Advocates demonstrates UNICEF’s commitment to engaging diverse voices to drive positive change for children in India. The organization hopes to leverage their influence and expertise to make a real difference in the lives of young people.
