Jigra Director Vasan Bala Responds Cryptically to Nepotism Claims on Alia Bhatt

Vasan Bala, the director of the upcoming film Jigra, recently addressed accusations of nepotism regarding Alia Bhatt’s casting. Some critics raised concerns that Alia, daughter of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, was cast due to her family background rather than her talent.

In response, Bala gave a cryptic reply, neither directly denying nor confirming the allegations. He suggested that focusing solely on family connections ignores the hard work and talent that actors bring to their roles. Bala added that it’s unfair to judge someone based on their family name without recognizing their efforts and achievements in the industry.

Sharing the poster, the director wrote, “The photo on the left, I had taken in 2022 and wished…The photo on the right at the same spot, 2024! Wish fulfilled!” Further, without mentioning anyone, Vasan Bala added, “Of course we can keep discussing other things too, to each his own…. October 11th will be the final answer.” Alia Bhatt reacted to the post by dropping an emoji in the comment section.

Alia Bhatt has faced nepotism accusations before but has managed to earn praise for her performances in films like Raazi and Gangubai Kathiawadi. With Jigra being highly anticipated, Bala seems to believe that her talent will speak louder than the accusations.

The debate over nepotism continues in Bollywood, but Bala’s response implies that talent and dedication should be the primary focus when evaluating actors. Jigra, co-produced by Alia herself, is set to showcase her skills once again, regardless of the controversy surrounding her casting.
