Let Saturday evening come and India will announce its official entry to the Oscars. Some 20 films are being scrutinized by a jury of the Indian Film Federation. The two hit films of Vidya Balan, ‘Kahani’ & ‘The Dirty Picture’, are under the scrutiny. Many Hindi films are at the top of the list of entries. And some seven films like ‘Paan Singh Tomar’, ‘Gangs of Wasseypur 1 & 2’, ‘Barfi’, ‘Heroine’ and ‘Ferrari Ki Sawari’ also feature in the list.
NFDC has also sent the national award winning Punjabi film for the year, ‘Anhey Ghorhey Da Daan’ and the film, ‘Gattu’ of Chidren Film Society of India also makes its debut.
There are some regional films too. Three Marathi films including ‘Kaksparsh’, ‘Deool’ and ‘Tukaram’. Deool has already won National award in three categories.
This year, the number of entries to the Oscar has gone up with an interesting mix of films. A senior member said, “It is going to be difficult for the jury to make the right choice”.
L. Suresh of the South Indian Film Chamber Of Commerce said, “We will make the announcement on Saturday evening”. Previous year, Salim Ahamed’s ‘Adaminte Makan Abu’ (Malayalam film) had been chosen as India’s official entry to the Oscars.
