Chandramouli Biswas, aged 48, a former bassist of the Bengali rock band Fossils, was found dead at his Kolkata residence on January 12, 2025. His body was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan by a fellow musician, Mohul Chakraborty, who visited after being unable to reach him by phone.
Biswas, known for his contributions to bands like Golok and Zombie Cage Control, had a significant impact on the Bengali music scene. He left a promising engineering career to pursue his passion for music, joining Fossils in 2000 and remaining until 2018. During his tenure, he transitioned from guitarist to bassist, becoming a vital part of the band’s success.
The news of his death deeply affected his former bandmates. Fossils’ lead singer, Rupam Islam, expressed his grief during a concert in Kalyani, stating, “We received the news of his passing just as we were on our way here.” He reminisced about their plans to collaborate on new music and emphasized Biswas’s irreplaceable role in their journey.
Police investigations suggest that Biswas had been battling depression and was under treatment. A suicide note was found at the scene, indicating his intention to end his life. The music community and fans mourn the loss of a talented artist who played a pivotal role in shaping Bengali rock music.
