As we all are aware that Deepika Padukone has some big films in her kitty for this year. She’ll be starring in Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathan, then she will be partnering with Madhu Mantena to produce and also act in a chapter from the Indian epic, Mahabharata, then she will be pairing with Hrithik Roshan for Siddharth Anand’s Fighter and she has a few more small projects to work on. Deepika was more than excited for the film Draupadi, which she also will be co-producing with Madhu Mantena. But her excitement seems to have slowed down as the magnum opus is put on hold. Read on to know why.
She announced about co- producing Draupadi few months before the release of her maiden production, Chhapaak. She also said that she would play the titular role of Draupadi in the film. But right now the film is on hold as they are not getting a good director for it.
“They announced the film because everyone was excited about bringing something as fascinating and iconic as Mahabharata on the big screen, however, over the last 2 years, they have not been able to lock on a director. The team explored several big names, but couldn’t align to the vision of any. One of the many directors in the race to direct Draupadi was Vishal Bharadwaj, but things fell through. After all these years, buzz is, the film is finally put on hold for the time being and will be revived at a later time frame,” a trade source told about the conversations in the industry
