Chandigarh Court Issues Notice to Kangana Ranaut Over Emergency Controversy

Kangana Ranaut’s upcoming film Emergency has been facing several setbacks. Initially scheduled for release on September 6, the movie’s premiere was delayed due to pending certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The film’s makers approached the High Court to expedite the process, but no resolution was provided.

Now, another legal issue has emerged. The Chandigarh district court has sent a notice to Kangana, asking her to appear on December 5. This comes after Ravinder Singh Bassi, president of Lawyers for Humanity, filed a complaint against her. He claims that the portrayal of the Sikh community in the film is defamatory and misrepresents historical facts. The movie is based on India’s political history, particularly the era of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and touches upon sensitive topics like Operation Blue Star, the assassination of Indira Gandhi, and the Punjab riots.

According to media reports, FIRs have been lodged under multiple sections, including 196(1), 197(1), 302, and 299 of the BNSS. As both the film’s director and lead actress, Kangana has not yet commented on the allegations. The film’s release remains uncertain amidst ongoing legal issues.
