Bengaluru celebrates Guru Dutt with film, music tribute

This weekend, Bengaluru will host a two-day film festival and a musical evening to pay tribute to the legendary actor-director Guru Dutt, who was born in the city.

The event is being organized by the Rotary Needy Heart Foundation (RNHF), a charitable organization that provides life-saving heart surgeries for underprivileged children across India. The proceeds from the ticket sales will go towards RNHF’s efforts.

The film festival will showcase some of Guru Dutt’s most iconic movies, such as “Pyaasa,” “Kaagaz Ke Phool,” “Mr and Mrs 55,” and “Aar Paar.” These films will be screened at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and the Suchitra Cinema and Cultural Academy.

In addition, a musical evening featuring songs from Guru Dutt’s films will be held on May 4 at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan. Renowned singers will perform, accompanied by an orchestra.

The organizers aim to celebrate Guru Dutt’s legacy and introduce his genius to a new generation of audiences. They also hope to raise funds for the RNHF’s noble cause of providing heart surgeries to underprivileged children.

The event is a tribute to Guru Dutt, who would have turned 100 this year, and to the many members of his core team, including cinematographer V.K. Murthy, who were from Bengaluru.
