Bastar: The Naxal Story struggles at box office, earns ₹2 crore in first weekend

New movie “Bastar: The Naxal Story” isn’t bringing in the big bucks despite a decent showing on its third day. Though Sunday was its strongest day yet at ₹90 lakh, the film’s total earnings in India so far are just over ₹2 crore. This falls far short of the team’s previous collaboration, “The Kerala Story,” which was a box office success in 2023.

“Bastar” tells the story of the Naxalite conflict in India’s Chhattisgarh region. Adah Sharma stars as an IPS officer in the film directed by Sudipto Sen. According to reviews, “Bastar serves as a stark reminder of the complexities inherent in the battle against Naxalism, yet falls short of fully exploring the nuances of its subject matter. While its patriotic fervour and commitment to highlighting the sacrifices of those caught in the crossfire are commendable, the film’s reluctance to confront the shades of grey within its narrative leaves it feeling somewhat incomplete.”
