Payal Kapadia’s film All We Imagine As Light has secured three spots on the 2025 BAFTA Film Awards longlists: Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Not in the English Language.
The British Academy released these longlists on January 3, 2025, highlighting films advancing to the next voting stage. Kapadia’s Malayalam-Hindi film, which made history by becoming the first Indian movie to win the Grand Prix award at Cannes in May, continues to gain international acclaim.
All We Imagine As Light explores the intertwined lives of two Malayali nurses in Mumbai: Prabha, portrayed by Kani Kusruti, and Anu, played by Divya Prabha. The film delves into themes of love, identity, and the contrasts of city life.
In addition to its BAFTA recognition, the film has received two nominations at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards for Best Motion Picture Non-English Language and Best Direction. It was also named Best International Film by the New York Film Critics Circle and won in the same category at the Gotham Awards.
The BAFTA nominations will be announced on January 15, 2025, with the awards ceremony scheduled for February 9, 2025. Kapadia’s film stands alongside notable international contenders, reflecting the global appreciation for her storytelling and direction.
