Chennai vocalist Bombay Jayashri denies allegations leveled on them that the first eight lines of the Lullaby sung by her in “Life of Pi” are a translation of the popular Malyali lullaby “Omanathinkal Kidavo”.

Jayashri says she only wrote whatever came to her heart.

According to Irayimman Thampi Trust chairman and secretary Rukmini Bhai Thampuratti, the song was only a translation of the Malayalam verse into Tamil.

The Trust has threatened to go into litigation against Jayashri if she did not come out with an explanation about the song’s striking resemblance to the original composition.

“We will not allow the copying of a song just for the sake of getting an award,” Mr Varma said. Bombay Jayashri, the singer of Pi’s Lullaby has been nominated for the Oscars and the city is excited.
