Renowned filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron has joined hands with Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan for the Oscar campaign of Kiran Rao’s latest film, Laapataa Ladies. The collaboration aims to promote the movie on a global stage, increasing its chances for recognition at the prestigious Academy Awards.
Laapataa Ladies has been renamed Lost Ladies as it moves toward the international stage. The film’s Academy Awards campaign recently got a significant boost with the support of renowned director Alfonso Cuaron, as reported.
Laapataa Ladies is a lighthearted yet socially relevant film directed by Kiran Rao, who previously helmed the acclaimed Dhobi Ghat. Jyoti Deshpande of Jio Studios, the film’s producer, shared that the movie has connected with audiences worldwide. “Although it’s a satire, it resonates with people across cultures. Whoever has watched it has loved it,” she said.
Deshpande also emphasized India’s growing influence in global cinema. She highlighted the country’s rich cultural diversity and its contribution to the film industry, adding, “India has come of age and deserves to win an Oscar.”
