Delhi HC Asks Sourav Ganguly to Pinpoint Contested Scenes in Film Doosra

The Delhi High Court has directed former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly and co-plaintiff production house Luv Films to identify specific scenes and provide timestamps in the movie Doosra that allegedly violate his personality and contractual rights.

Doosra, directed by Abhinay Deo, is a sports drama that hit theatres recently. Ganguly approached the court arguing that the film unauthorizedly exploits his life, image, and iconic moments—such as the historic 2002 NatWest series final at Lord’s—without his consent. He sought an interim injunction to curb further distribution, particularly before its digital streaming release.

In response, the film’s makers defended the project, stating that Doosra is a fictional story centered around a young girl from Rajasthan who draws inspiration from cricket milestones. They maintained that Ganguly serves merely as a source of inspiration and that proper legal permissions were secured for using archival sports footage.

While the court previously declined to halt the theatrical release, it has now asked the filmmakers to submit a copy of the movie on a pen drive. The bench will review the flagged controversial portions as the legal battle over personality rights continues.
