Karan Johar Announces Biopic on R&AW Founder R.N. Kao for 2028

Renowned filmmaker Karan Johar has officially announced an upcoming feature film based on the life of Rameshwar Nath Kao, the legendary founder and first chief of India’s external intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW). The high-profile project is scheduled to hit theaters worldwide on August 11, 2028, targeting the lucrative Independence Day weekend.

​The movie is adapted from the well-known book R.N. Kao: Gentleman Spymaster written by journalist and author Nitin Gokhale. It will explore how Kao operated in the shadows to build India’s premier intelligence network from the ground up, highlighting crucial historical milestones such as his strategic leadership during the 1971 war.

​Jointly backed by Dharma Productions and Leo Media Collective, the project has already generated massive excitement among moviegoers who love patriotic spy thrillers. While the official cast and director are yet to be revealed, the grand scale of the announcement promises a thrilling cinematic tribute to one of India’s greatest hidden heroes.
