How Sudesh Berry Was Cast Before Shah Rukh Khan in Darr

Actor Sudesh Berry recently revealed that he was the original choice for the iconic role of Rahul Mehra in Yash Chopra’s blockbuster movie Darr (1993). He shared that he had even finalized his costumes for the project before the makers decided to change direction.

According to Sudesh, the casting change happened because of the scale of the other lead actor. While actors like Rishi Kapoor and Aamir Khan were considered earlier, the role eventually went to Sunny Deol. Director Yash Chopra felt that a climactic action scene involving a punch would not look convincing if a newcomer like Sudesh was pitted against a massive star like Sunny.

Consequently, Shah Rukh Khan was brought in for the role, which turned out to be a massive turning point in his career. Although he missed out on the iconic project, Sudesh harbors no bitterness, noting that success in the film industry relies heavily on destiny and good fortune.
