Divya Khossla: Most Bollywood Movies Fake Box Office Numbers Using Corporate Bookings

Bollywood actress and director Divya Khossla has made a bold claim about the film industry’s box office practices. She revealed that approximately 90% of Bollywood films artificially inflate their collection numbers through corporate bookings, meaning the actual earnings are much lower than reported.
According to Khossla, many production houses book thousands of movie tickets themselves to create an impression of high demand and success. These corporate bookings make it appear as though films are performing well at the box office, even when genuine audience turnout is poor.
The actual numbers are nowhere close to what is being shown,” Khossla stated, highlighting a common practice that misleads audiences and industry stakeholders. This strategy helps movies generate positive buzz and attracts more viewers who believe they’re watching a hit film.
The actress’s comments have sparked discussions about transparency in Bollywood’s financial reporting. While corporate bookings aren’t illegal, critics argue this practice creates false narratives about a film’s success and manipulates public perception.
Khossla’s revelation raises important questions about the authenticity of box office reports in Indian cinema. It suggests that audiences should be cautious when judging a film’s popularity based solely on reported collection figures, as these numbers may not reflect genuine public interest or ticket sales.
