Famous director Shekhar Kapur recently spoke about actor Sushant Singh Rajput, saying he never saw any sign of mental illness in him. Kapur had worked closely with Sushant for the movie Paani, which sadly got cancelled. He remembers Sushant as a hardworking and passionate person who wanted to do everything perfectly. Sushant would practice his scenes again and again, and often visit Kapur to ask for advice or feedback on his acting.

Kapur shared that creative people sometimes feel troubled, but he only saw Sushant’s drive and excitement for work, not signs of depression or illness. He said Sushant was “obsessive” about doing things well, trying hard to improve his skills. Kapur also revealed that both he and Sushant were very disappointed when Paani was shelved—they even cried together because they cared deeply about the project.

The director regrets not reaching out to Sushant in the last few months before the actor’s death, but he still remembers their discussions and Sushant’s enthusiasm. Kapur hopes that people will focus on Sushant’s performances and talent, instead of talking about negative theories, and that his legacy will be remembered through his films.
