Anurag Basu Denies Rewriting Kartik Aaryan, Sreeleela Film Script After Saiyaara’s Success; Director Sets the Record Straight

Rumors have been swirling that the blockbuster success of Saiyaara, a romantic drama featuring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, prompted significant script changes in Anurag Basu’s upcoming musical love story starring Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela. However, Basu has unequivocally denied these claims, clarifying that his film is not being reworked in response to Saiyaara’s box office performance.

Basu addressed media queries, explaining that both films may feature rockstar protagonists and intense love stories, but any similarity ends there. He emphasized, “The only similarity in our films is that the male lead is a rockstar, and the story is about his journey. We are not rewriting or re-shooting. I knew beforehand that the girl has Alzheimer’s in Saiyaara. So, why would I write the same plot point in mine?” Basu stated firmly that rumors about the female lead’s character arc being changed due to Saiyaara’s success are baseless.

He also clarified that the delay in shooting is entirely due to scheduling conflicts, with both Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela occupied with other commitments. The film, which remains untitled, has already completed about 40% of its shooting and is scheduled to resume filming soon. While the release has been pushed from Diwali 2025 to 2026, Basu assured fans that the creative vision remains unchanged and that the project is on track to deliver a fresh romantic musical experience.
