Outdoor set built for rally sequences with Alia Bhatt for Gangubai Kathiawadi

One of the much-awaited films of 2021 is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi. The shooting for this Alia Bhatt starrer initially started back in 2019, but it was put to halt because of the lockdown due to Covid-19 pandemic. The shoot resumed almost after six months in October 2020.

This film is based on Husain Zaidi’s book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai’ and narrates the story of Gangubai, the Madam of Kamathipura who was pushed into prostitution at an early age. Later on she becomes an extremely influential pimp with numerous ferocious gangsters as her client.

Now according to latest reports, the production design team of the film has built a small new set at Joker Maidan in Film City, which is close to the existing set-up at the film studio in Goregaon. the period of early 1960s will be seen in the new set, when people of Kamathipura wanted the red-light belt evacuated. At that time Gangubai spearheaded a movement against the evacuation of sex workers. In the new set, Alia will be shooting scenes giving speeches and holding marches.
