Superhero movie of Katrina Kaif helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar will release on Netflix

Fans were all excited when they heard the news that Katrina Kaif will be starring in the superhero film directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. Later we also heard the news that that the flick will not get a usual theatrical release but will hit the mega digital platform of Netflix original. Now the reason airing for releasing the movies in an OTT format is that none of the producers or studios found the film financially viable.

The film is going to be a two-part franchise and the budget of the movie is rs 200 crore. However according to reports, the big screen producers thought that the film won’t have any takers and so it wont fetch any profit. One of the sources close to the development team said; “Katrina Kaif’s film will be mounted on a huge scale and is fit for big-screen viewing. The budget is Rs. 200 crore for both the films combined. Ali Abbas Zafar approached several producers and studios to bankroll the project. But all of them found the venture to be financially unviable. They feared that it wouldn’t find as many takers as they’d require for the project to become profitable.”

The source further said that the director was stubborn on making it a Katrina starrer. And therefore he approached the mega OTT platform Netflix, who were ready to invest in this first of its kind Indian woman-centric superhero film. It said; “Ali Abbas Zafar is a commercial director who makes pan-India, massy films. He’s the only director besides Rajkumar Hirani who has two Rs. 300 crore grossers. It’s shocking that someone like him couldn’t get a producer on board. These studios have no issues blowing off Rs. 100 crore on films like Bombay Velvet (2015) and Rangoon (2017), both of which were backed by directors who make niche films. And then they refuse to fund Ali’s vision. Unbelievable!”
