What does Javed Akhtar have to say on Kangana Ranaut’s nepotism row?

The controversial debate on nepotism in Bollywood has been around in the industry for a while. It got a sudden stroke with a suicidal demise of Sushant Singh Rajput over a month ago. Kangana Ranaut looks like the torchbearer of this debate this time. Taking his stand on nepotism in Bollywood and in the ‘Insiders vs Outsiders’ matter, the veteran lyricist and scriptwriter Javed Akhtar said that the Queen actress exists in the industry which is proof that talent is always given a chance. In his words, “Her very existence proves that talent never goes waste. And she is an outsider.”  

Mr. Akhtar  decided to respond to the claims made by the actress and her team about nepotism. Speaking to a news publication, he said “It is true that somebody who is born to a film family has a sort of foot in the door. But that’s about it. There is no rigging possible in this industry because ultimately the vote comes from the audience. Karan Johar is Karan Johar not because his father Yash Johar gave him a break, but because he is talented. If a father giving his son opportunity is nepotism then every industrialist is a nepotist.”

In the meantime, Kangana also claimed to return her Padmashree if her claims in SSR’s case proved to be untrue.
