The biopic, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was one of the biggest blockbusters of 2013. The film earned over Rs 100 crore along with many accolades that included Filmfare Best Actor Award for Farhan Akhtar. Although we cannot imagine any better Milkha Singh than Farhan, you will be surprised to know that he was not the first choice of filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. He as well as legendary sprinter himself wanted the Khiladi, Akshay Kumar to play the titular role. But later he confessed that Farhan did justice to the character and was the best choice.
In an interview with a leading daily, he said “For the longest time, I felt that Akshay was correct for my role. But during my initial interaction with Farhan, I realized that he was the best man. I discovered that he has the same determination and grit as me. Now, I can confidently say Farhan is the best choice.” He further added, “He is exactly how I wanted to see myself on screen. He has replicated me on screen. He even resembles me.”
The success of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag has made the duo of Farhan Akhtar and Rakeysh Mehra to collaborate again for Toofan. In this sports drama, the actor portrays the character of a boxer. The movie also features the veteran actor Paresh Rawal, playing as the coach. Mrunal Thakur also plays the role of the leading lady in the film. The movie was scheduled to release on September 18, but is delayed now due to Corona crises.
