Diljit Dosanjh Punjab 95 To Go For 120 Cuts As Per CBFC Guidelines

Diljit Dosanjh most awaited project Punjab 95 to go through 120 cuts as per CBFC. CBFC asked for title change along with renaming human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra

Upcoming biopic Punjab  is based on story of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. Biopic is being helmed by Honey Trehan and backed up by Ronnie Screwvala.

Biopic is facing hurdles in availing CBFC certificate as CBFC taking into consideration about freedom of expression and the portrayal of historical events. However CBFC asked for  85 cuts from the film. Later after reviewing Revising Committee has increased cuts to 120.

 According to report CBFC has asked makers to change character’s name with  Sutlej, a reference to the river that unites Punjab.  However makers of the film have strongly objected to this change, arguing that Khalra is a revered figure in the Sikh community and that renaming him would be disrespectful to his legacy. On the other hand CBFC has asked for title change.According to CBFC Punjab 95 title might evoke strong emotions and sway public sentiment. CBFC also pointed out filmmaker to eliminate any mentions of Punjab and its  Tarn Taran. References to Canada and the UK have been deemed inappropriate and must be removed.

 Upcoming Biopic is setback  in the turbulent 1990s Amritsar, biopic Punjab ’95 revolves around Jaswant Singh Khalra, a seemingly ordinary bank employee and human rights activist, who leads a middle-class life with his librarian wife and two young children. His desire for a peaceful existence is shattered when he learns about the disappearance of his friend’s mother, Bibi Gurpej. As Khalra delves deeper into the investigation, he uncovers a dangerous web of secrets, putting himself and his family at risk.
